Where it came from
Force of Rage was introduced in the 2019 expansion Modern Horizons, a set specifically designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce cards directly into the Modern format without them passing through a Standard legal rotation. The card is part of a cycle of free spells inspired by the original Force of Will, intended to provide players with powerful interactive tools that can be cast without mana by exiling a card of the same color from one's hand.
The artwork for this card was created by illustrator Johannes Voss, who rendered a vivid depiction of chaotic, aggressive pyromancy fitting the red color identity of the spell. Upon its release, the card was widely analyzed by the Magic: The Gathering community for its potential utility as a sideboard card, particularly due to its ability to create two temporary elemental tokens that can provide immediate pressure or defensive bodies in fast-paced competitive environments.
