Forsaken Sanctuary

Forsaken Sanctuary was released in 2018 as part of the Rivals of Ixalan set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed as an uncommon-rarity land card intended to provide color-fixing capabilities for players using white and black mana, reflecting the set's tribal-focused exploration of the plane of Ixalan. The card follows a long-standing mechanical tradition of 'tapped' dual lands, which enter the battlefield restricted by a speed penalty in exchange for providing versatility in mana options.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by Christine Choi, who sought to capture the overgrown, desolate atmosphere of the Ixalan jungles where ancient civilizations have been reclaimed by the wilderness. The visual design emphasizes the theme of forgotten architecture and the damp, shadowed aesthetic consistent with the plane's aesthetic direction. Upon its release, it was well-received by players engaged in the Limited format, serving as a reliable, if modest, utility piece for decks maneuvering through the block's complex creature-heavy environment.
