Fortune Teller

Fortune Teller was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth standalone expansion in Magic: The Gathering’s long-running Un-series. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, this set was intended to blend the humor and meta-game mechanics characteristic of the series with legitimate, black-bordered cards that could be used in various casual formats. The set leans heavily into a retro-futuristic sci-fi carnival aesthetic, aiming to evoke a nostalgic, whimsical space-age atmosphere.

The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, whose work has been a staple in Magic: The Gathering for several years. Minguez’s approach for this piece focuses on the archetype of the mystical space-age clairvoyant, utilizing vibrant colors and intricate details to fit the vibrant, surreal tone of the Unfinity set. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its thematic consistency with the set’s carnival theme and its unique mechanical role within the game’s unconventional ruleset.
