Foulmire Knight // Profane Insight

Foulmire Knight was originally released in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering set Throne of Eldraine, a collection heavily inspired by Arthurian legend and classic fairy tales. This card utilizes the adventure mechanic, a signature feature of the set that allows a creature to be played as a sorcery before entering the battlefield, providing players with both a tactical resource and a permanent threat in one card. The design intent was to capture the duality of a knight who has succumbed to darker influences, blending high-fantasy tropes with a gothic sensibility.

The artwork, illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, leans into the grim aesthetic established by the set's portrayal of Eldraine's dangerous wilderness. The 'Foulmire Knight // Profane Insight' inclusion in The List—a curated archive of cards from throughout the game's history—reprints the card with its original design and mechanical identity. It remains a notable example of the efficient, multi-functional design philosophy that defined the Throne of Eldraine era, prized by players for its utility in black-aligned decks.
