Foundry of the Consuls

Foundry of the Consuls was released in 2015 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Magic Origins. The card was designed as part of a cycle of lands representing the iconic locations of the set's five featured planeswalkers, with this specific card representing the city of Ghirapur on the plane of Kaladesh. It was intended to showcase the city's focus on artifact construction and mechanical innovation, providing players with a utility land capable of generating creature tokens in the late stages of a game.

The card features illustration by Jung Park, who utilized a clean, architectural aesthetic to emphasize the polished, high-tech sensibility of the Kaladesh setting. The design intent was to bridge the gap between early-game mana production and mid-game board presence, reflecting the theme of mechanical empowerment found throughout the block. Upon its release, it was regarded by the player community as a reliable, functional utility piece, particularly within Limited formats where its ability to create colorless defenders provided necessary stability.
