When this artifact enters, put a rope counter on target creature you control.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may pay 2 generic mana. If they do, they put a rope counter on a creature they control. Otherwise, exile this artifact and each creature without a rope counter on it, then remove all rope counters from all creatures.

Where it came from
Fraying Line was released in 2022 as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to capture the flavor and mechanics of the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms setting, specifically focusing on the city of Baldur's Gate. Mechanically, the card serves as a board-clearing effect that utilizes the game's venture into the dungeon mechanic, reflecting the high-stakes risk inherent in tabletop role-playing encounters.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who is known for his ethereal and atmospheric style. In this piece, Voss depicts a conceptual representation of crumbling reality or fraying threads, aligning with the card's function of resetting the state of the battlefield. It was designed to provide players with a strategic tool that balances power with a cumulative, group-wide cost, and it remains a staple for players building decks around dungeon-themed archetypes.
