What it does
Each player loses half their life, then discards half the cards in their hand, then sacrifices half the creatures they control of their choice. Round up each time.
The Great Mending that healed the Multiverse also unraveled the threads of Nicol Bolas's power.

Where it came from
Fraying Omnipotence was released as part of the Core Set 2019 promo cycle, a collection of cards featuring alternate-art treatments distributed to players through local game store events. The card itself represents the high-fantasy aesthetic of Magic: The Gathering, functioning as a powerful sorcery spell designed to force players to sacrifice half their life and half their permanents, thereby creating an immediate and volatile shift in the game state.
The illustration for this promo version was crafted to emphasize the card's theme of divine or cosmic unraveling. By utilizing a distinct visual style separate from the base set version, Wizards of the Coast aimed to reward players for their participation in organized play. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but thematic inclusion, praised primarily for its dramatic art style that captured the essence of its destructive in-game effect.
