Where it came from
Fraying Sanity was originally printed in the Hour of Devastation expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2017, designed to support mill-based strategies by doubling the impact of cards put into an opponent's graveyard. The enchantment serves as a high-risk, high-reward engine that turns modest milling effects into game-ending threats, reflecting the themes of mental erosion found in the set's narrative.
The version from the Fallout set, released in 2024, features new artwork by artist Kekai Kotaki that adapts the card's mechanics to the post-apocalyptic aesthetic of the Fallout franchise. By recontextualizing the card as a piece of radiation-warped equipment or psychological hazard within the Wasteland, the design team maintained the functional identity of the original while grounding it firmly within the lore and visual language of the Vault-Tec universe.
