Where it came from
Frenzied Devils was originally released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Double Feature. This set was designed as a curated, black-and-white stylistic tribute to the gothic horror themes of the original Innistrad block, specifically combining cards from the Crimson Vow and Midnight Hunt expansions. The card itself features artwork by Slawomir Maniak, who rendered the chaotic, fiery nature of the devils to align with the set's monochromatic, cinematic aesthetic.
The Double Feature release was intended to provide a unique drafting experience by merging two thematically linked sets into one silver-screen-inspired visual presentation. While the mechanical design of Frenzied Devils focuses on the destructive, high-tempo red archetype common to the plane, the artistic direction aimed to evoke the feeling of classic creature-feature films. It was received by the community as a niche collector's edition, prized primarily for its distinct greyscale art treatment rather than its mechanical rarity.
