Fungal Reaches

Fungal Reaches first appeared in the Time Spiral expansion, released in 2006 as a reflection of the set's central theme of temporal instability. The card was designed as a storage land, a mechanic that rewards patient resource management by allowing players to accumulate charge counters over time. This particular iteration was illustrated by the artist John Avon, who is renowned for his evocative and lush landscape work within the Magic: The Gathering universe.

The 2021 Time Spiral Remastered version, bearing collector number 279, was created to celebrate the history of the original block by curating its most iconic and mechanically interesting cards for a modern draft environment. The design intent was to provide a nostalgic experience for veteran players while introducing newer collectors to the complex, layering mechanics of the early 2000s. The set was generally well-received for its ability to condense a sprawling, complicated block into a streamlined, playable experience.
