Provenance

Where it came from

Fungal Plots originated as an uncommon enchantment in the original Nemesis set of 2000, designed to bolster the Saproling creature token archetype. The card was selected for inclusion in the 2023 Commander Masters set, a high-profile release focused on reprinting popular cards for the commander format and featuring premium aesthetic treatments.

The original illustration was crafted by artist Christopher Rush, whose work defined much of the early visual identity of Magic: The Gathering. His interpretation of the card aimed to capture the visceral, decaying, and regenerative cycle of fungal life, a theme that has allowed the card to remain a flavorful staple in graveyard-focused decks for over two decades.
