Fyndhorn Elder

Fyndhorn Elder first appeared in the Ice Age expansion in 1995, representing the druidic traditions of the Fyndhorn elves. When the card was selected for the Seventh Edition core set in 2002, it was chosen to anchor the green faction’s mana acceleration mechanics, providing players with a consistent, repeatable way to generate mana throughout a match. This printing marked a transition in the card's visual identity as the game moved toward more modernized aesthetic standards.

The Seventh Edition illustration was commissioned from Greg Staples, who moved away from the more rugged, traditional fantasy style of the original card. Staples utilized a darker, more atmospheric approach, focusing on the Elder’s connection to the natural world and the ethereal glow of the forest. The design was well-received by players for its technical polish and remains a notable example of early-2000s card art that prioritized mood and texture over the starker, flatter compositions common in the game's earliest years.
