Where it came from
Ganax, Astral Hunter was introduced as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. Designed specifically for the Commander format, this card draws on the lore of Dungeons & Dragons, representing a dragon character from the Astral Plane. It was created to facilitate treasure-focused mechanics, serving as a tactical engine for players utilizing the Dragon creature type within their decks.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Games Workshop, capturing the imposing nature of the astral predator within the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Dungeons & Dragons expansion. As a legendary creature with the 'Choose a Background' mechanic, it was received by the player community as a versatile utility piece that enhances gold-generation strategies, bridging the gap between dragon-tribal archetypes and mechanics introduced in the set.
