Ganax, Astral Hunter // Ganax, Astral Hunter

Ganax, Astral Hunter is part of the Art Series released within the Magic: The Gathering set Battle for Baldur's Gate in 2022. This set was designed to bring the flavor and mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons into the card game, specifically focusing on the iconic characters and themes of the Baldur's Gate video games and tabletop modules. The Art Series cards serve as high-quality, frame-less reproductions of the original card illustrations, intended to allow collectors to appreciate the artwork without the overlaid game text.

The illustration for Ganax was created by artist Caroline Gariba, whose work in the set emphasizes the dark, ethereal nature of the Astral plane. Gariba aimed to capture the predatory and imposing essence of the character, utilizing a vibrant color palette to contrast the hunter against its otherworldly environment. These cards are distributed as promotional inserts in collector boosters, and they are generally received as a tribute to the craftsmanship of the game's illustrators, functioning more as collectible prints than standard playable game pieces.
