Garna, the Bloodflame was introduced in the 2018 Magic: The Gathering expansion Dominaria, a set designed to celebrate the game's twenty-fifth anniversary by revisiting one of its most iconic planes. The character is a commander of the Weatherlight crew’s adversaries, representing the sinister influence of the Cabal. This specific version is a promotional printing featuring the same card mechanics as the standard uncommon version but presented with unique set-stamped branding for release events.

The artwork was commissioned from Winona Nelson, who sought to capture Garna’s intense, volatile nature as she commands the undead forces of the Cabal. Nelson utilized a high-contrast color palette to emphasize the character’s connection to blood magic and fire. The design was well-received by the player base, particularly among those who favor the 'reanimator' playstyle in the Commander format, as the card provides a distinct ability to recover creatures from the graveyard upon entering the battlefield.
