Garruk Wildspeaker

Garruk Wildspeaker debuted in the 2007 Magic: The Gathering set Lorwyn, marking a significant milestone in the game's history as one of the first five planeswalker cards ever printed. Designed to introduce a new card type that represented powerful allies capable of fighting alongside the player, Garruk was established as a green-aligned beastmaster. The set's development team sought to create characters that felt like distinct players, shifting the focus of the game's narrative and mechanics toward iconic figures who traversed the multiverse.

The artwork for the card was created by Aleksi Briclot, who established the visual identity for the planeswalker archetype. Briclot utilized a rugged, earthy aesthetic to emphasize Garruk's connection to primal magic and the untamed wilderness. Upon its release, the card was widely praised for its utility and gameplay balance, quickly becoming a staple in green-based decks and setting the standard for the design of future planeswalker cards in the years that followed.
