Garruk Wildspeaker // Garruk Wildspeaker

The Garruk Wildspeaker Secret Lair drop, released in 2020 as part of the 'Prime Slime' collection, reimagines the iconic planeswalker through the lens of a distinct, visceral aesthetic. This version highlights Garruk's connection to the primal nature of the Multiverse, emphasizing a more rugged and monstrous interpretation that deviates from his standard depictions in the core Magic: The Gathering sets. By offering these alternate-art treatments, Wizards of the Coast intended to provide collectors with a more stylized, artist-driven perspective on established characters.

The artwork for this specific iteration draws upon a dark, illustrative style that focuses on the intensity of the character's bond with predatory beasts. The design choices were aimed at players who appreciate bold, unconventional visual interpretations that break away from the traditional high-fantasy look typical of the base game. Upon release, this drop was well-received by fans of the planeswalker, particularly those who gravitate toward the grim and textured aesthetics that define many of the Secret Lair series.
