Geier Reach Sanitarium

Geier Reach Sanitarium was originally printed as a rare land card in the 2016 set Eldritch Moon, later appearing in the Commander 2019 collection. It depicts a location within the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad, specifically representing the asylum where the plane's inhabitants were afflicted by the psychological corruptions of the Eldrazi titan Emrakul. The design focuses on the narrative tension of the block, where the environment itself reflects the madness and transformation overtaking the local population.

The card was illustrated by Christine Choi, who utilized a somber and misty color palette to evoke the dreary, psychological dread associated with Innistrad’s lore. Mechanically, the card allows players to discard a card and draw a new one, simulating the 'rummaging' effect common in red and blue color identities, but here presented as a colorless utility land. It was well-received by the Commander community for its ability to provide card selection in decks that otherwise lack drawing power, serving as a staple in various graveyard-focused strategies.
