Provenance

Where it came from

The Gemhide Sliver was originally introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering set Time Spiral, designed to evoke the nostalgia of the earlier Tempest block while expanding the Sliver creature subtype. The card was conceptualized by the Wizards of the Coast design team to provide a critical mana-acceleration engine for Sliver-based decks, allowing each member of the hive to act as a source of any color of mana.

The version from Time Spiral Remastered, released in 2021, features the original artwork by Mike Schley. Schley, known for his technical precision and ability to render complex biological mutations, illustrated the creature with a crystalline, mineral-like hide that emphasizes the evolution of the Sliver species. The Remastered printing was received as a faithful tribute to the classic design, maintaining its status as a staple for players navigating the complexities of the Time Spiral era.
