Where it came from
The Genesis card was released in 2013 as part of the Judge Gift Card program, an initiative by Wizards of the Coast to reward tournament judges for their volunteer service and contributions to the Magic: The Gathering community. These cards are distributed as exclusive, foil-treated promotional versions of existing cards, intentionally designed with unique, often stylized artwork to provide judges with a tangible token of appreciation.
The artwork for this particular iteration of Genesis was commissioned from artist Volkan Baga, who utilized a distinct painterly style to interpret the card's theme of life and rebirth. The card, originally from the Judgment set, depicts a cyclical motif fitting for a creature that allows players to return cards from their graveyard to their hand. Its reception among collectors and players remains high, primarily due to the combination of its historical utility in competitive formats and its status as a limited-edition aesthetic variant within the broader Judge Gift series.
