Where it came from
Genesis Wave was originally printed in the Scars of Mirrodin set in 2010, designed as a powerful green sorcery that reflects the themes of the Mirran resistance and the proliferation of Phyrexian mana. The card is mechanically significant for allowing players to reveal the top cards of their library and put all permanent cards among them directly onto the battlefield, embodying the 'wave' of growth and expansion central to the set's narrative.
This specific iteration, part of the Secret Lair Drop series, features stylized, distinct illustrative direction intended to provide a modern, artistic interpretation of the original card's explosive effect. These drops were introduced by Wizards of the Coast to offer specialized, collectible variants of iconic cards, often featuring unique collaborations with artists who move away from the traditional high-fantasy aesthetic found in standard expansions.
