Where it came from
Winds of Abandon was originally released in the 2019 Modern Horizons set, designed as a powerful board wipe for white decks that rewards opponents with lands to balance its efficiency. The card gained significant popularity in the Commander format, where its ability to exile non-land creatures while granting ramp in exchange for tapped lands provides a strategic trade-off that players often find essential in multiplayer dynamics.
This specific iteration from the Secret Lair series, labeled collector number 1817, features a distinct stylistic departure from the traditional fantasy art found in the main sets. These drops are curated to showcase experimental or thematic artistic collaborations, and this particular version employs a bold, stylized aesthetic meant to contrast with the standard visual language of the game, appealing to collectors who value limited-run visual interpretations over the original card's appearance.
