Germination Practicum // Germination Practicum

Germination Practicum is part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. This set was designed to showcase the intricate, full-bleed illustrations featured on cards from the main expansion, serving as a collectible celebration of the visual artists who define the aesthetic of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. These cards were distributed exclusively in Set Boosters to provide players and collectors with high-quality, gallery-style representations of the game's creature and spell concepts.

The illustration for this card was crafted by artist Lie Setiawan, who utilized a lush, botanical color palette to evoke the academic and magical atmosphere of Witherbloom College. In the context of the set's lore, the image depicts the practical study of life-magic, focusing on the symbiotic relationship between growth and decay. The piece was well-regarded by collectors for its atmospheric lighting and depth, successfully capturing the distinct identity of the school while standing as a standalone piece of fantasy art.
