Glasses of Urza

The Glasses of Urza, originally appearing in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering, were revisited in the rare 1994 print run colloquially known as Summer Magic. This specific iteration was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to correct printing errors found in the earlier Revised Edition, resulting in a distinct, limited release that was largely recalled and destroyed due to further production inconsistencies, making surviving copies exceptionally scarce in the hobby.

The card design features artwork by Dan Frazier, a foundational illustrator for the game’s early years. His depiction of the artifact captures the utilitarian and mystical aesthetic characteristic of Urza’s legendary technology, emphasizing a grounded, illustrative style that defined the visual language of the game's initial expansions. Upon their limited release, the cards were noted primarily for their rarity rather than competitive utility, eventually becoming prized artifacts for collectors interested in the tumultuous production history of early Magic sets.
