Where it came from
Glissa's Courier was released in 2011 as part of the Mirrodin Besieged expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the metallic world of Mirrodin, the expansion depicts the conflict between the native inhabitants and the invading Phyrexian forces. This card specifically represents the influence of the Phyrexians, who sought to repurpose the plane's inhabitants through mechanical assimilation.
The card's artwork, created by Igor Kieryluk, captures the grim aesthetic characteristic of the Phyrexian faction within the game's lore. The design focused on illustrating the unsettling transformation of a once-organic courier into a tool of the Phyrexian blight, emphasizing themes of body horror and technological infection that were central to the set's visual storytelling. It was received as a functional common-rarity card, utilized primarily by players to search their decks for specific artifacts during gameplay.
