Where it came from
Glissa, Herald of Predation was released as a promotional card within the March of the Machine set, which marked the climactic conclusion to the Phyrexian invasion storyline in Magic: The Gathering. This specific iteration depicts Glissa Sunslayer, a character who was originally a heroic champion of Mirrodin before her tragic compleation into a Phyrexian praetor, serving as a powerful symbol of the corruption that defines the narrative of the New Phyrexia arc.
The card features distinct promotional treatment, often utilized by Wizards of the Coast to highlight pivotal narrative figures through unique, high-contrast art styles. Illustrators for the Phyrexian-aligned characters were tasked with conveying a fusion of organic grace and metallic, biomechanical horror. Upon its release, the card was received as a mechanically significant addition for players focusing on toxic and proliferation strategies, solidifying its place as both a competitive staple and a centerpiece for collectors of Phyrexian-themed artwork.
