Where it came from
Goblin Sleigh Ride, numbered 15 in the Happy Holidays set, emerged as a whimsical seasonal promotional card. These cards were typically released by Wizards of the Coast as internal gifts for employees and partners, reflecting a tradition of blending the competitive mechanics of Magic: The Gathering with festive, lighthearted themes that diverge from the game's standard dark fantasy lore.
The card’s illustration leans into a comedic, chaotic aesthetic common to goblin-themed cards within the game. By utilizing the existing goblin creature subtype, the design focuses on subverting traditional holiday imagery with the frantic, slapstick energy associated with the game's green-red color identity. While not legal in tournament play, it is highly regarded among collectors for its limited distribution and the specific cultural niche of the annual Happy Holidays series.
