Where it came from
Greatest Show in the Multiverse was released in 2022 as part of Unfinity, the fourth Un-set produced by Wizards of the Coast. Designed for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, this set leaned into a science-fiction carnival theme, blending the game's traditional mechanics with tongue-in-cheek humor and meta-referential gameplay. The card itself exemplifies the set's focus on spectacle, featuring a vibrant, cosmic-inspired aesthetic that contrasts with the more grounded fantasy tones of standard Magic expansions.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, who captured the chaotic, interstellar scale of a multiversal circus. Within the context of the game, it is designed as a powerful enchantment meant to represent the sheer overwhelming nature of such a performance. Upon its release, Unfinity received a mixed but generally positive reception from the community, with players praising the creative art direction and the inclusion of the 'attractions' mechanic, which effectively translated the whimsical carnival concept into interactive, physical tabletop play.
