Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart

Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart was introduced as part of the Universes Within initiative, a project by Wizards of the Coast designed to provide Magic: The Gathering equivalents for mechanically unique cards previously released in Secret Lair drops based on outside intellectual properties. This card serves as the in-universe functional reprint of a character originally associated with the 'The Walking Dead' collaboration, allowing players to utilize the game mechanics within the traditional lore of the Multiverse without the external branding.

The design of Greymond reflects the aesthetic of the Innistrad plane, reimagining the character as a stalwart defender within that gothic horror setting. By adapting the card into the Universes Within line, the design team aimed to maintain gameplay consistency while ensuring the art and flavor text felt native to the established Magic setting. The card's reception has been largely defined by its utility as a commander, particularly among players who prefer thematic cohesion over the crossover aesthetics of the original releases.
