Where it came from
Griselbrand was originally introduced in the 2012 Magic: The Gathering set Avacyn Restored. This specific version, a promotional release for the 2015 Grand Prix circuit, features distinct artwork by Aleksi Briclot. As a centerpiece of the set's narrative, the character represents one of the most powerful demons in the game's lore, known for his overwhelming influence and ability to manipulate card advantage, which made him a recurring subject for competitive play.
The 2015 Grand Prix Promo edition was distributed to players competing in qualifying events, a common practice used by Wizards of the Coast to encourage tournament participation. Aleksi Briclot’s illustration departs from the original card's aesthetic by emphasizing the demon's looming, terrifying presence against a stark background. The card is highly regarded by collectors for its unique art style and its status as a quintessential powerhouse within the black color identity of the game.
