Card face

What it does

Don't try to outrun one of Dominaria's grizzlies; it'll catch you, knock you down, and eat you. Of course, you could run up a tree. In that case you'll get a nice view before it knocks the tree down and eats you.

Provenance

Where it came from

Grizzly Bears is a foundational creature card in Magic: The Gathering, appearing in the game’s original Alpha set in 1993. The creature became the quintessential 'vanilla' creature, establishing the 'bear' archetype—a two-mana creature with two power and two toughness—that has served as the baseline for creature power and development for the duration of the game's history.

The art for this specific printing in Eighth Edition features an illustration by Darrell Riche. As part of the Core Set, this edition sought to standardize the game’s aesthetic and mechanics for newer players, utilizing the modern card frame introduced during that era. While the card is mechanically simple, it remains a beloved relic of the game's early design philosophy, favored by long-time collectors for its nostalgic significance.
