Where it came from
Ground Assault was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Worldwake in 2010. It is a sorcery card that embodies the tactical, land-focused mechanics of the Zendikar plane, where the environment itself reacts to the presence of planeswalkers. The card was designed to provide players with a situational removal tool that scales based on the number of lands they control, reflecting the set's central theme of land synergy.
The 2022 Double Masters version, bearing collector number 223, was created as part of a premium reprint set designed to celebrate powerful and iconic cards from the game's history. While the card is a standard mechanical reprint, this version features updated visual styling consistent with the Double Masters aesthetic, focusing on high-quality card stock and distinct foil treatments favored by collectors who appreciate the archival nature of the secondary market.
