Where it came from
Grove of the Dreampods was originally released as part of the Planechase Anthology in 2016, a collection designed to revive the popular multiplayer format that emphasizes planar travel within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. As a plane card, it functions not as a standard spell, but as an environmental effect that influences the state of the game for all players, reflecting the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the setting it represents.
The card was illustrated by the artist Eytan Zana, who crafted a surreal, dreamlike landscape intended to evoke the otherworldly aesthetic associated with the wild growth and ethereal properties of the plane. Within the community, the design is appreciated for its thematic integration with green-aligned mechanics, providing players with distinct advantages that mirror the burgeoning, rapid development of the environment depicted in the artwork.
