Where it came from
Gush was originally released in the 2000 Mercadian Masques expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed as a blue instant that allowed players to return two Islands to their hand to cast it without paying its mana cost. The card quickly became infamous for its power level, contributing to a period of game history where 'free' spells dominated competitive formats, ultimately leading to its restriction or banning in several constructed environments.
The 2022a version is a special promotional printing released for Eternal Weekend, an annual celebration of older, non-rotating formats like Legacy and Vintage. This specific iteration features updated frame treatments consistent with modern premium card aesthetics, intended to serve as a high-visibility, commemorative trophy for attendees and participants of the event's high-level competitive play.
