Hallowed Fountain

Hallowed Fountain was first introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Dissension, which served as the conclusion to the Ravnica: City of Guilds block. Designed as part of a cycle of dual lands representing the ten guilds of Ravnica, it specifically honors the Azorius Senate, the guild responsible for the plane's laws and judicial system. These lands were engineered to provide flexibility in deck construction by tapping for either white or blue mana, requiring players to pay two life as a cost for the convenience of playing them untapped.

The card's artwork was commissioned from illustrator Rob Alexander, who has contributed extensively to the game’s visual identity since the mid-1990s. Alexander focused on capturing the architectural grandeur and rigid, imposing structure characteristic of the Azorius aesthetic. Upon its release, the card became a cornerstone of competitive play, as the ability to fix mana bases while maintaining a fast tempo established it as a staple in various formats, cementing its status as an iconic piece of modern card design.
