What it does
Whenever Hans Eriksson attacks, reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put it onto the battlefield tapped and attacking defending player or a planeswalker they control. Otherwise, put that card into your hand. When you put a creature card onto the battlefield this way, it fights Hans Eriksson.

Where it came from
Hans Eriksson was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card design is a direct meta-reference to a piece of flavor text from the 1994 Homelands set card Lhurgoyf, which famously features the line 'Lhurgoyf? I don't care about any stinkin' Lhurgoyf!' spoken by a character named Hans. This card finally gives a face and mechanics to that character, pairing him with his sister, Saffi Eriksdotter.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who depicted Hans in a dynamic, heroic pose consistent with the visual evolution of the game’s legendary creatures. It was received warmly by the community as a deep-cut nod to the game's long-standing lore and history, successfully transforming a decades-old joke into a functional and flavorful card for the Commander format.
