Hanweir, the Writhing Township

Hanweir, the Writhing Township represents the horrific culmination of the Eldrazi influence on the plane of Innistrad during the Shadows over Innistrad block. It was created as a double-faced meld card, requiring two distinct cards—Hanweir, the Embattled and Hanweir Garrison—to be present on the battlefield simultaneously to transform into this singular, gargantuan horror. The design reflects the Eldrazi corruption narrative, where the townspeople of Hanweir were literally fused into a singular, maddened entity by the presence of Emrakul.

The card’s striking illustration was crafted by Vincent Proce, who sought to capture the visceral, body-horror aesthetic synonymous with the Eldrazi mutation process. In the context of Innistrad Remastered, this card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the set's focus on the plane's darker lore. It was well-received by players for its innovative mechanical approach to the meld keyword, which effectively visualized the story's descent into cosmic insanity through physical card manipulation.
