Where it came from
Heartless Summoning was originally introduced in the 2011 Innistrad expansion set, designed to embody the gothic horror themes of summoning dark, weakened entities at a reduced cost. The card functions as a strategic enchantment that accelerates gameplay tempo by lowering creature mana costs, balanced by a permanent penalty to their size, reflecting the trade-off inherent in dark, rushed necromancy.
The artwork, by artist Igor Kieryluk, captures the essence of the card’s design by depicting a shadowy ritualistic summoning. Within the Innistrad Remastered release, this card maintains its identity as a quintessential engine for combo-oriented deck building, prized by players for its ability to enable rapid creature deployment and sacrificial synergies.
