Where it came from
Hearts on Fire was released as part of the Foundations Jumpstart set, which serves as a foundational entry point for Magic: The Gathering players. Designed to be accessible and intuitive, the set was crafted by Wizards of the Coast to streamline the onboarding process for newcomers, focusing on core gameplay mechanics and thematic clarity that defines the game's identity.
The art and design for this card were developed to reflect the high-fantasy aesthetic signature to the plane of Dominaria, which serves as the thematic anchor for the Foundations set. By pairing direct, impactful mechanics with evocative imagery, the design team aimed to provide players with a clear understanding of the card's role in a deck, ensuring it felt both powerful and illustrative of the broader lore associated with the set's release.
