Where it came from
Hei Bai, the Forest Guardian, appears in the Avatar: The Last Airbender Eternal trading card set as card number 139. The card captures the dual nature of the spirit, representing its peaceful form alongside its darker, corrupted state caused by the destruction of the forest. This set was produced to commemorate the iconic imagery of the original animated series, aiming to translate the show's distinct visual language into a collectible format for fans of the franchise.
The design of the card emphasizes the atmospheric shift central to the character's narrative arc in the show. Illustrators focused on the high-contrast transition between the forest's guardian and the vengeful spirit, utilizing the art style established by the show's production team. Upon release, the set was received as a faithful adaptation that resonated with those who appreciated the show’s environmental themes and mythological depth.
