Where it came from
The Heroes of the Realm cards are an exclusive series produced by Wizards of the Coast, intended specifically for company employees. Unlike standard trading cards found in retail boosters, this card was produced in 2022 as a commemorative internal award to recognize the development team behind the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion. These cards are never sold in stores and are intended to honor the immense labor involved in bringing the complex, high-concept setting of Kamigawa back to the modern game.
The artistic direction for this piece leans into the intersection of traditional folklore and the cyberpunk aesthetic that defined the Neon Dynasty set. The card features unique mechanical designs that often push the boundaries of standard gameplay, serving as both a tangible token of recognition and a piece of corporate history for the design studio. Because these items are distributed through internal channels to staff, they are among the most sought-after rarities in the secondary market, representing the specific creative team effort behind the set's success.
