Where it came from
The 'Wizard from Beyond' was created in 2022 as part of the exclusive Heroes of the Realm series, a special initiative by Wizards of the Coast. These cards are not sold in traditional booster packs; instead, they are custom-designed, limited-run cards given specifically to employees of the company to commemorate significant contributions to the development of Magic: The Gathering. As such, these items represent a unique internal culture of recognition, serving as tokens of appreciation for the staff who help shape the game's evolving mechanics and lore.
The card features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent illustrator within the Magic: The Gathering community known for her evocative and painterly style. In designing the 'Wizard from Beyond,' the goal was to craft a card that felt both mechanically distinct and narratively mysterious, fitting the established aesthetic of the series. Because these cards are distributed in extremely low quantities exclusively to internal personnel, they are highly sought after by collectors of niche game memorabilia, representing a rare intersection between corporate heritage and the expansive world of professional card game design.
