Where it came from
Holy Day was released in the Invasion expansion set for Magic: The Gathering in October 2000. As part of a cycle of cards focused on the multicolored themes of the Invasion block, it was designed to provide players with a low-cost defensive option within the white color slice, specifically functioning as a fog effect that prevents all combat damage dealt during a single turn.
The card features illustration by artist Pete Venters, who was a prolific contributor to the game during this era. His design for Holy Day draws on the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Invasion set, aiming to visually communicate the concept of divine intervention or temporary sanctuary amidst the chaotic warfare depicted throughout the expansion's narrative.
