Hour of Reckoning

Hour of Reckoning first appeared in the Ravnica: City of Guilds set in 2005, designed as a powerful board wipe specifically tailored for token-based decks. It allows players to destroy all non-token creatures, essentially rewarding those who have spent the game building an army of smaller creatures while clearing the opposition's board. The card features the 'convoke' mechanic, which was introduced in the Ravnica block to allow players to tap their creatures to help pay for the spell's casting cost, reinforcing the thematic idea of a massive, unified army rising up.

The Jumpstart 2022 printing, numbered 194, retains the original mechanical identity while placing the card within a set designed for pick-up-and-play casual experiences. The illustration by Greg Staples captures the epic, chaotic nature of a battlefield moment where a mass of soldiers rallies against a singular threat. It remains a staple in commander formats and token-heavy archetypes, prized for its ability to turn the tide of a game without damaging the player's own established board state.
