Where it came from
Humble Defector was originally released in the 2015 set Fate Reforged, representing a unique political mechanic within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card was designed to facilitate multiplayer interaction by allowing players to draw cards in exchange for handing over control of the creature to an opponent, a risk-reward dynamic that encourages table negotiation and social maneuvering.
This specific printing comes from Masters 25, a set released in 2018 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the game. Featuring artwork by Johannes Voss, the card retains its original strategic intent while appearing in a frame style consistent with the compilation's retrospective focus on iconic and functional cards from throughout the game's history.
