Where it came from
Hushwing Gryff was introduced in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering core set, Magic 2015. It functions as a creature with a specific tactical utility, designed to disrupt opponents by silencing the enter-the-battlefield triggers of other creatures. This card belongs to the tradition of white-aligned hatebears, a classification of low-cost creatures used in constructed formats to slow down the pace of competitive play.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who depicted the gryff in a mid-flight pose typical of his highly detailed, painterly style. Within the context of the Magic 2015 set, the card was positioned as an answer to strategies that rely heavily on permanent-based enter-the-battlefield abilities, finding a niche in both Standard and Modern formats for players looking to suppress powerful synergies.
