Where it came from
Hyena Pack was released in 2017 as part of the Amonkhet set for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the harsh, desert-themed aesthetic of the plane of Amonkhet, a setting inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology. In the game's lore, the pack serves as a representative of the predatory wildlife stalking the outskirts of the city of Naktamun, contributing to the set's overall atmosphere of survival and trial.
The card features artwork by artist Johannes Voss, who sought to capture the feral and aggressive nature of the creatures within the desert environment. The illustration emphasizes the pack's coordinated movement and menace, aligning with the mechanical intent of the card, which rewards players for controlling multiple creatures. It was received as a functional common-rarity card, often utilized in limited formats like Booster Draft to support aggressive deck archetypes.
