Where it came from
Imotekh the Stormlord was released in 2022 as part of the Necrons-themed 'Necron Dynasties' deck for the Magic: The Gathering Warhammer 40,000 Commander set. This collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop translated the iconic characters and factions of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop universe into the mechanics of Magic: The Gathering, aiming to bridge two major communities of tabletop hobbyists.
The card art depicts Imotekh, the Phaeron of the Sautekh Dynasty, characterized by his tactical brilliance and signature phase-shifting abilities. Designed to reflect his lore-heavy status as a master of warfare and technological dominance, the card features an ability that rewards players for sacrificing artifacts, effectively mirroring his lore-established ability to command endless legions of Necron constructs to overwhelm his adversaries.
