Where it came from
The Impatient Iguana is a playtest card released as part of the 2019 Mystery Booster set, a unique product designed by Wizards of the Coast for Magic: The Gathering. These cards were distributed in limited quantities during convention events and local game store playtest sessions, intentionally featuring experimental mechanics, whimsical art, and placeholder designs that would not typically appear in standard competitive play.
The design of these playtest cards leans into a self-aware, lo-fi aesthetic, often utilizing simple illustrations and draft-style layout techniques. They were created by the Magic design team as a sandbox for exploring 'what if' scenarios in card mechanics. Because these cards were never officially printed for the mass market or standardized tournament play, they are highly regarded by collectors as rare artifacts of the game's internal development process and creative brainstorming.
