Where it came from
The Impatient Iguana is a playtest card released as part of the 2021 Mystery Booster convention edition. These cards were designed by the Wizards of the Coast research and development team as a way to experiment with mechanics that fell outside the standard rules or flavor constraints of Magic: The Gathering. They were distributed in special booster packs at various events to provide players with a glimpse into the internal iterative process of game design.
The aesthetic of these cards is intentionally stripped back, featuring minimalist layouts and handwritten-style fonts to emphasize their status as prototypes rather than final products. The Impatient Iguana, like others in the series, showcases an unconventional ability that reflects the designers' interest in testing mechanical boundaries in a casual, low-stakes setting. Because these were never intended for official tournament play, they are highly regarded by collectors as unique artifacts of the game’s development history.
